Várkapitány Winery was founded by Tibor Csáki in 2007. He started to produce wine on the vineyards purchased from Inhauser Winery, on the north side of the hill, at the foot of the ruins of the Somló castle. The property of some hectares covers today no less than 15 hectares. Thanks to this amount of land, in terms of size, the winery is in the mid-range of the Somló wine region.
Várkapitány Winery is an artisan winery. Wines are fermented in oak barrels, then mellowed in barrels for at least one year.
The winery produces traditional Somló varieties such as Juhfark, Furmint, Hárslevelű, Welschriesling, as well as international varieties like Gewürztraminer, Yellow Muscat and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Their main cellar is the Turul Wine Cellar which is several hundred years old. Above this cellar, you can find the property designed by the Kossuth Prize-winning architect, Imre Makovecz, which has been transformed into a guest house for wine tourism while preserving the cultural heritage and natural assets of the region.
A special feature of the Turul Wine House is that its unique vibrations are transferred into the wine bottles, which further strengthens the positive physiological effects of these Somló wines.
The guest house has 4 sunflowers according to rating system of rural tourism. Accommodation is available for up to 20 people.
Two separate guest-halls offer opportunity to organize wine-tastings, wine-dinners and smaller events with friends (for up to 30 to 40 people).
Cold and hot dishes are also available by prior appointment.
